Nanami Kiryu

Nanami is Touga's younger sister, and the school bully at Ohtori Academy. With six henchman and a young boy who has sworn himself to her, Nanami is able to act out her cruelty on anyone she doesn't like. She is scheming, manipulative, selfish, and unkind. She seems to hate (or at least dislike) everyone, except for Touga. Like all bullies, Nanami's disruptive and cold behavior is a display to hide her overabundant inner turmoil. She believes that everything is out to get her, and in some cases (such as animals), that is true...

Nanami has a...shall we say...special affection for Touga. It is obvious that her feelings for him go far beyond sisterly love. She is always after his attention, and her jealousy and rage against other girls who rouse Touga's interest is fierce. This can be seen when Nanami is first introduced: she sees that Touga is interested at least mildly in Ancy, so she has Ancy invited to a dance and then publicly humiliated. Her plot is thwarted in the end by Utena, but Nanami continues her cruelty against Ancy anyway. If Nanami had her way, she would lock Touga up in a little box for only her to see.

Nanami is eventually enstated in the Student Council, and becomes a duelist. She fights with a sword and a dagger, making her the only Duelist to fight with two weapons. She is fierce and viscious in battle as she is in life.

Nanami is one of the most convoluted characters in the series, and though she can be very cruel, she wins my sympathy in some cases. I can't go into that now, though, because that would be a spoiler... ^_-
